Warren Fields: A luni-solar ‘time-reckoner’ from 8th millennium BC Scotland

The group at Visualising Heritage were involved in the investigation of the Mesolithic site at Warren Field (Crathes, Scotland). With colleagues from Birmingham, St Andrews and other institutions we showed that the pits at the site, discovered from the air and subsequently excavated, aligns on the Midwinter Sunrise. The site was described by Professor Vince Gaffney as ‘…one important step towards the formal construction of time and therefore history itself.’
