Fossil Finder

Launched at the British Science Festival in 2015, the ‘Fossil Finder’ project was a component of the AHRC Digital Transformations Theme Large Grant ‘Fragmented Heritage’. This revolutionary citizen science project with collaborators from the Turkana Basin Institute in Northern Kenya allowed members of the public to be trained to analyse high resolution drone imagery using the Panoptes Platform from Oxford’s Zooniverse team. This combined effort has helped to interrogate the landscape, looking for displaced rocks and bone fragments as key indicators of the ancient environment within the remote region of East Lake Turkana.
